Originally opened in 1925 by the name of “Hotel Santa Rosa," El Albergue is a historic and romantic lodge, located in the Ollantaytambo train station little more than an hour away from Machu Picchu and the city of Cusco.

Over the years, El Albergue Ollantaytambo has grown and changed from an historic train station hotel into a place of hospitality, tradition and sustainability.

With an organic farm that provides produce for our renowned restaurant, a pachamanca lunch that honors the history and culture of the Andes, and an oasis of gardens bursting with flowers and fruits, we welcome our guests not only to stay but also to participate in the experience that is El Albergue.

The restaurant and café are open to hotel guests and travelers alike. Café Mayu on the train station platform offers espresso coffee, tea, cookies, brownies, sandwiches and salads.

We have created our menu using fresh organic ingredients from our garden and Sacred Valley offering a selection of Peruvian and European flavors.

Alpaca steak, fresh salads, homemade fettuccine and fresh trout are a few items available on our menu.

In addition, we offer our Pachamanca farm lunch daily, with fresh ingredients cooked in a traditional "earth oven." Guests dine al fresco and enjoy a meal of freshly cooked meats, vegetables, and other farm dishes while enjoying the magnificent scenery of Ollantaytambo.

While you are at El Albergue you may spend your days visiting the Inca and Pre-Inca archeological sites of Ollantaytambo, Pisaq and Moray, river rafting and mountain biking, and enjoying the beauty and culture of the Andes.

 

El Albergue Ollantaytambo is happy to offer guests of El Albergue the use of fully-equipped mountain bikes, including helmets, gloves, reflectors, baskets, and bike locks. We also provide a detailed map of Ollantaytambo to outline the best bike trails.

With only 16 rooms special detail is given to each and every one, resulting in an elegantly rustic style. Beautiful gardens visited by hummingbirds are engulfed by the aroma of fuchsia, passionflower, peaches and avocado trees which all adorn the early 20th century lodge. Step outside and catch the train to the spectacular ruins of Machu Picchu.

The Standard King room is located in El Albergue's main building, a beautiful and historic edifice overlooking near the train platform with a balcony entrance boasting excellent views of the gardens and surrounding mountains. The Standard King room has one king bed and a private bathroom. There are no TVs in this room. This room is on the second floor.

Standard Double

The Standard Double rooms are located in El Albergue's main building, a beautiful and historic edifice overlooking the train platform with a balcony entrance boasting excellent views of the gardens and surrounding mountains. The Standard Double rooms have one double bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom. There are no TVs in these rooms. These rooms are located on the second floor.

Superior Garden

The Superior Garden rooms are located in two buildings concealed in the El Albergue Gardens, furthest from the train platform. Relax in the hammocks under fragrant jasmine and watch the hummingbirds. The Superior Garden rooms have one queen bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom. An extra twin bed can be added to accommodate up to four guests. There are no TVs in these rooms. These rooms are located on the ground floor.

Superior Balcony

The Superior Balcony rooms are located in two buildings concealed in the El Albergue Gardens, furthest from the train platform. Walk out onto the balcony for breathtaking views of the mountains and glaciers of the Sacred Valley. The Superior Balcony rooms have one queen bed and one twin bed and a private bathroom. There are no TVs in these rooms. These rooms are on the second floor.

Albergue Casita

Perfect for families or guests who desire extra space, the Casita is our newest accommodation which features two bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other bedroom has two twin beds. Nestled into the back of the property surrounded by lush gardens, the Casita has breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and Inca terraces. Equipped with a private kitchen and dining area, guests are welcome to prepare their own meals with fresh produce right from the El Albergue Farm, upon request. There are no TVs in this room. This room is on the ground floor.
