Starting and finishing in Puerto Ordaz, you will spend 4 days and 3 nights driving across the Gran Sabana (Great Plains) plateau of Venezuela, through small and remote villages rarely visited by travelers. Rivers, waterfalls, tepuis (unique table-top mountains), rainforest jungles, expansive savannahs, diverse and unique flora and fauna. Excursions include a trip by Indian boat to see the impressive Apongwao Falls, hikes to other waterfalls.
Depart from your hotel this morning on a long drive through small villages across the Gran Sabana. You will visit Cachamay Park with the “La Llovizna” waterfalls, a good first impression of what you can expect to see in the Gran Sabana. You will be reaching the plateau of the Gran Sabana. You will visit small places like Upata, Guasipati and El Callao. Overnight next to the rapids of Kamoiran at Posada Kamoiran. Lunch and dinner included.
Today, you will continue driving westwards along a bumpy road to a small village. There you will embark on a typical Indian boat to see the impressive Apongwao Falls - called Chinak Meru by the local indiginous people. Afterwards, you will walk about an hour across the savanna to visit a small waterfall and take a refreshing bath. Overnight at Posada Kamoiran. All meals included today.
Today is especially exciting because you will get much closer to the table top mountains (tepuis) driving further south. Their magical aura will captivate you. You will stop at several waterfalls such as Salto Kama and Quebrada de Jaspe, where you can take a swim. You will also visit Quebrada de Jaspe with its jasper riverbed. Afterwards, you will continue to Santa Elena, the last town within Venezuela on the Brazilian border. Overnight in the comfortable Yakoo Camp in Santa Elena. All meals included today.
After breakfast you return north across the Gran Sabana to Puerto Ordaz. Breakfast and lunch included today.
