This 8-day tour through the Andes of Colombia begins in the capital of Bogotá, with its world-famous “Museo Del Oro”, then to the coffee growing region around Armenia, before continuing to the village of San Agustín in the southwest of the country.

Day 1 : Bogota

You will be met at the airport upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Bogota hotel for three nights with breakfast included.

Day 2 : Bogota

Bogota City Tour
This guided visit to the Colombian capital starts at the Plaza de Bolívar (the city’s main square) and government buildings situated around it and continues to the old colonial part of the city better known as “La Candelaria”, the San Francisco Church, the Gold Museum (closed on Mondays) and the Emerald Museum.

Thereafter you reach higher ground by taking a funicular railway or cable car to the top of the Monserrate Hill offering a spectacular view of the city.

Day 3 : Villa de Leyva

Depart Bogotá at dawn via the Northern Expressway. After about 2 hours, you will arrive at the most important monument in Colombian history: the “Boyacá Bridge”. It is on this bridge that Simón Bolívar fought and won his most decisive battle against Spanish settlers.

Travel continues until you arrive in Villa de Leyva, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved colonial villages in South America. A walk around the town will be followed by lunch in a rustic setting (lunch not included in price).

On the return journey to Bogotá you visit Ráquira, a village famous for its clay pottery and Chiquinquira, an important pilgrimage site. Duration: approximately 12 hours.

Day 4 : Bogota - Armenia (Coffee Zone)

Hotel pickup and transfer to the airport for your flight to Armenia.

On arrival, transfer to a coffee growing farm located near Armenia where you will spend two nights including breakfast. In the afternoon you will visit a special coffee growing farm which consists of a technical and practical introduction about the whole coffee cultivation and production process and a visit of the botanical garden with its impressive butterfly raising.

Overnight at a hotel in the Coffee Zone, breakfast included - 2 nights.

Day 5 : Cocora Valley and Salento

With breathtaking landscapes this is one of the most beautiful valleys in Colombia. Here one will find the impressive “Palma de Cera”, the Colombian national tree and one of the tallest varieties of palm in the world. Your tour of the Cocora Valley can be on foot or horseback (at additional cost).

On the way back to Armenia the tour ends with a visit to Salento a picturesque village with an important the coffee culture.

Day 6 : Armenia - Neiva - San Agustin

This morning you will transfer to the airport for your flight to Neiva with a connection in Bogota.

You will transfer overland from Neiva approximately 4-5 hours to San Agustin, following the Magdalena River en route. In the countryside surrounding this pleasant rural village you will see some of the most important archeological remains on the whole continent. You will spend two nights at the centrally-located San Agustín hotel, daily breakfast included.

Day 7 : San Agustin Archaeological Park

After breakfast, visit to San Agustín Archaeological Park, to Mesitas A – B – C and D, the “Fuente Ceremonial de Lavapatas” and the “Archaeological Museum”.

Around noon, trip to the nearby village of San José de Isnos, which also includes the spectacular landscapes surrounding the “Salto del Mortiño” waterfall. Towards the end of the day, return trip to San Agustín. Time to rest and explore the village.

Day 8 : San Agustin - Neiva - Bogota

You can choose to do a morning horseback ride to “El Tablón” and “La Chaquira” archaeological sites, or, take a trip to the nearby strait of the Río Magadalena, the narrowest point through which the river passes.

Afterward, return by overland transfer to Neiva for your flight to Bogota. Overnight Bogota hotel or continue on post-trip extension.
