This is the ultimate 4WD adventure, venturing deep into Iceland‘s uninhabited highlands.

You‘ll drive the Kjolur and Sprengisandur routes between the ice caps, traverse lava beds and black sand deserts to the Askja caldera. Lastly, you‘ll take up the Fjallabak challenge through the rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar, were the river crossings compete with the views for thrills.

Lost World Adventures itineraries can be tailor-made according to your plans and preferences: budget, hotel selections, travel dates, optional excursions, length of trip, etc.

Day 1: Arrival Day

Pick-up of the car in the airport. Drive to Hotel/Guesthouse. Optional visit to the Blue Lagoon.

Day 2: Golden Circle

Explore Iceland‘s famous circle of wonders „The Golden Circle“, Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area. Your accommodation for the first night will be in this area.

Day 3: Kjölur – Highland – Skagafjord

Today you will cross the highlands to the north on the Kjölur route between two large glaciers, Langjökull and Hofsjökull. Stop at Hveravellir, a geothermal area where you have the opportunity for a swim. The accommodation will be in Skagafjördur area.

Day 4 & 5: Lake Myvatn Head for Lake Myvatn

and explore the many wonders of the area. On the second day you might wish to take a day tour to Askja, a highland favourite. Drive through the vast lava flow via Herdubreidalindir. A dip in the geothermal pool at the crater Víti is a treat not to be missed. Accommodation for two nights in Myvatn area

Day 6: Sprengisandur - Highland Drive

the black sands of Sprengisandur back south, with rough tracks crossing un-bridged and unpredictable rivers. Nyjidalur is the ideal spot to have a lunch break and stretch your legs in the green valley. Accommodation for tonight is simple in style and is on the edge of the desert.

Day 7 &  8: Landmannalaugar – Reyk javik

Drive to Landmannalaugar for a swim in a warm river. Take the Fjallabak mountain route to Eldgja volcanic fissure and Kirkjubaejarklaustur for a 2 night stay. Next day visit Laki, a 25 km long row of craters that last erupted in 1783 and return to Reykjavik via the two fantastic waterfalls, Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Day 9: Departure

After breakfast you can enjoy some free time in Reykjavik (depending on flight time) before you drop the car at the airport. Flight back home.
