Lost World Adventures itineraries can be tailor-made according to your plans and preferences: budget, hotel selections, travel dates, optional excursions, length of trip, etc.

Day 1: Full-day Trek to Machu Picchu

Early this morning you will be met at your Cusco or Sacred Valley hotel by your trekking guide and transfer to the train station where you'll set off on the train for a scenic trip through the Urubamba Valley. Disembark at kilometer 104, where the day trek to Machu Picchu begins.

The hike is slow and easy through the impressive Urubamba Canyon, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. You are encouraged to travel light, bringing only a day pack with items you'll need for your overnight. At Wiñay Wayna Ruins, stop to enjoy the box-lunch. From here, a 2-hour hike leads to Intipunku (Gate of the Sun), which overlooks the awesome Machu Picchu.

Overnight at an Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu hotel.

Day 2: Machu Picchu - Cusco

This morning you'll be met at your hotel by your guide and depart on the 25-minute 'zig-zag' shuttle bus to Machu Picchu. For guests staying at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge you will proceed directly to the Machu Picchu entrance.

Set off to explore the walls, plazas, palaces, stairways, temples, and terraces of Machu Picchu.

After a buffet lunch served at the Sanctuary Lodge, you'll be free to explore this enchanting place on your own. Lunch included.

Those in good physical shape (and a strong head for heights) may wish to hike the very steep trail to the top of Huayna Picchu (or Machu Picchu Mountain) for outstanding views of the entire region (there is a daily limit to the number of hikers permitted up Huayna Picchu - see below*).

In due time, return to the Machu Picchu train station for departure.

Depart on the train for the return journey to Poroy Station, just outside Cusco. Trains typically depart in the afternoon.

You will be met at the Poroy train station in Cusco and transferred to your hotel.
