Pantanal & Bonito Highlights

Day 1: Campo Grande – Pantanal

You will be met at the Campo Grande Airport and transfer directly to Fazenda Baía das Pedras located in the Pantanal. Approximate driving time – 6-7 hours*. Upon arrival you will check-in and be introduced to the lodge facilities. Afternoon tour to explore the amazing nature of the surroundings. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

All meals and guided excursions are included during your stay. *At additional cost: overland Campo Grande-Aquidauana (1h30min drive) by car, van or minibus; flight (Cessna) Aquidauana-Faz. Baía das Pedras (40min flight).

Fazenda Baía das Pedras is situated in a beautiful setting by the Vazante do Castelo, an impressive natural draining field that concentrates amazing nature, wildlife and landscapes. Owned by a traditional family on the settlement of this area in Pantanal, the lodge provides a charming and homely atmosphere, excellent services and comfortable accommodations, with guests hosted by the genuine landowners.

During your stay there will be full days of tours and activities. The actual tour program is set according to the lodge’s suggestions and guests’ preferences.

Available tours include: hiking/walking tours, horseback riding, safaris on 4WD vehicle, bird watching, night safari/spotlighting, traditional ranch activities with local cowboys. The property holds a great diversity of environments, which grants a comprehensive experience on Pantanal’s nature and wildlife.

Days 2, 3: Pantanal

Days for guided excursions of the Pantanal.

Day 4: Pantanal

Depart after breakfast on a fantastic safari drive by 4WD vehicle, crossing spectacular areas with plenty of nature and colorful landscapes at one of the most preserved areas in the Pantanal. You will be able to stop and photograph along the way. Arrive at Barra Mansa Lodge in time for lunch. Approximate driving time – 3 hours.

Located by the Negro River, the most preserved river in Pantanal, Barra Mansa Lodge is definitely a hotspot in Pantanal! The area bursts with wildlife, landscapes are breathtaking and the lodge offers a wide range of tours for travelers to explore the Pantanal, always on a private basis.

Rooms are simple and comfortable with a maximum capacity of 17 people. Room sizes range from double to quadruple sized. There is also a private house equipped with two bedrooms, one bathroom, refrigerator and living room, ideal for families or friends traveling together.

All apartments are screened, have hot shower, air conditioning and fan. Facilities and amenities include restaurant and bar, laundry service, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, fishing equipment rental, library, private landing strip.

Gastronomy is one of the highlights at Barra Mansa Hotel, serving authentic Pantanal dishes cooked by a wooden stove, using local natural ingredients. Roasted free-ranged local wild pigs, caribéu made with corned beef and barbequed pacu fish are examples of the cuisine served at Barra Mansa. Vegetarians will happily be accommodated wtih delicious dishes prepared with nutritional care.

You will have a chance to relax after lunch and before departing on the first tour at Barra Mansa: an amazing motorboat river exploration to see the amazing wildlife and sceneries of the area. Return for dinner and overnight.

Days 5, 6: Pantanal

Days for guided excursions of the Pantanal.

Day 7: Pantanal – Bonito

You will be met at your hotel this morning (around 7:30 am) and set off on a 4-hour drive to Bonito (330 kms.). You will have a private driver / guide, and stops may be made along the way to Bonito.

Overnight in Bonito at Pousada Olho D’ Agua, daily breakfast included.

Pousada Olho D’agua offers rooms with balcony, an outdoor swimming pool and free Wi-Fi. It is situated 3 km out of Bonito and surrounded by extensive gardens. The restaurant serves typical Brazilian food and international cuisine.

Day 8: Bonito – the Mysterious Lagoon & Rio da Prata

We have selected the two top snorkeling tours for our clients to explore on the first full day.

Pick up at the hotel after breakfast and drive to the Mysterious Lagoon. The tour starts with a short trail through an amazing forest area, a great opportunity to observe the rich diversity of fauna and flora, and leads to the observatory, where travelers meet the stunning 75 meters deep doline (erosion) and the Mysterious Lagoon at its bottom.

The access to the lagoon is made down 179 safe stairs. At the lagoon you will receive mask, snorkel and life jacket and start the amazing exploration of the Mysterious Lagoon, impressive for its depth, the two dark blue abysses on the bottom and incredible transparency of the water.

After the first tour, proceed directly to Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata, selected several times as the number one attraction in Bonito. A delicious lunch will be served upon arrival with some time to rest.

The afternoon tour will take you on a walk through the riverine forest to the Olho d’Água River Spring, a huge natural pool of crystal-clear waters. You will enter the water with proper equipment (neoprene outerwear, mask and snorkel) and float downstream snorkeling for around 2 kms while enjoy the sight of an incredible natural aquarium. Return to hotel. Evening at leisure.

Day 9: Bonito – Blue Lagoon Cave & Estância Mimosa

Pickup after breakfast and transfer to the number one post card image of Bonito – the Blue Lagoon Cave.

The tour starts with a walk of about 300 meters to the cave entrance and continues through rough stairs down to the edge of the astonishing electric blue water lagoon at the bottom. What an amazing view! The beauty of the lagoon and geological formations of the cave are worthwhile.

After the visit you will proceed directly to Estância Mimosa, a beautiful spot on the margins of Rio Mimoso replete with pristine nature and several waterfalls.

A delicious lunch will be served on arrival. Your afternoon tour will be a pleasant walk – birding through the gallery forests – to several spots where you can swim and relax in marvelous waterfalls, cascades and natural pools. Return to your hotel. Evening at leisure.

Day 10: Bonito – Boca da Onca Ecotour

Depart after breakfast to Boca da Onça Ecotour, an ecological paradise fulfilled by natural attractions. A four-kilometer path along preserved woodland takes you through ten waterfalls and several natural pools, where it is possible to swim, relax and watch splendid birds and the pristine vegetation.

The trail ends at Boca da Onça Waterfall, the highest of Mato Grosso do Sul State (156m) and highlight of the tour, truly spectacular!

After the tour you will return to the visitors center for a delicious lunch. You will have access to the natural swimming pool (with water coming from the river/stream) and relaxation areas with fantastic views of Maracaju Sierra Mountains and beautiful landscapes.

Return to your hotel. Evening at leisure.

Day 11: Bonito – Campo Grande

At the appropriate time you will transfer to the Campo Grande Airport.
