Your adventure begins in the enchanting city of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage treasure where pastel-colored buildings line cobblestone streets and volcanic peaks loom in the distance. Here, history comes alive with every step—through centuries-old churches, bustling markets, and workshops where you’ll learn local traditions firsthand. Children will be captivated by the kaleidoscope of colors, the smell of fresh tortillas, and the sight of steaming volcanoes on the horizon.
From Antigua, you’ll journey to the shores of Lake Atitlán—often called “the most beautiful lake in the world”—where sparkling waters reflect the surrounding volcanoes and indigenous villages keep centuries-old customs alive. Whether you’re paddling in a kayak, hiking along ancient Mayan paths, or visiting women’s weaving cooperatives, every encounter reveals another layer of Guatemala’s rich heritage.
The adventure culminates in the lush jungles of Petén, where the legendary ruins of Tikal rise dramatically above the treetops. As you wander through towering temples and listen to the calls of howler monkeys, you’ll feel transported back to a time when the Maya civilization thrived here. Each day ends not only with incredible memories but also with a deeper connection to the people, places, and traditions that make Guatemala so extraordinary.

Day 1: Arrive Guatemala City – Transfer to Antigua
Welcome to Guatemala! Our local representative will meet you at the airport upon arrival and transfer you to your hotel in Antigua.
Overnight at an Antigua hotel, breakfast included – 3 nights.
Antigua is among the world’s best conserved colonial cities in the Americas and UNESCO site. It is a magic and captivating small town that makes you feel as if time might have stopped 300 years ago.
From its colonial architecture to its beautiful surroundings; strolling through town on the cobblestone streets, you will experience the splendors of ancient times! Kids will love the brightly colored colonial buildings and will marvel at the steaming volcanoes in the distance.
Day 2: Antigua – Walking tour & Peanut Butter Workshop
After breakfast enjoy a guided walking tour of Antigua. You will visit breath taking colonial monuments and find out why this city was the bustling center of the region for the Spaniards.
Discover the secrets of Antigua’s traditional history and art. Admire the colonial architecture of the 16th-century churches, buildings, fine arts, terra-cotta ceramics, wooden sculptures and a great variety of traditional weavings. Lunch will be included at a local restaurant.
After lunch, you’ll be transferred to the town of San Miguel Escobar. Lilian and Lidia, two local peanut farmers, will teach you how to make peanut butter from scratch. Enjoy a delicious homemade tortilla with your own hand made peanut butter.
Day 3: Pacaya Volcano Hike & Horseback Riding
Pacaya is one of the most active volcanoes among Guatemala’s 33 volcanoes. Sitting at 2,500m above the sea level, Pacaya is one of the youngest volcanoes with beautiful views toward the Pacific Coast and three other volcanoes nearby (Agua, Acatenango and Fuego).
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel for your transfer to the volcano. It takes around 2 1/2 hours to reach the summit.
Once on top, you’ll be able to enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch and fresh made s’mores with marshmallows roasted over hot vents in the rocks! Kids will love the adventure of making this treat!
After the trek, you’ll be transferred to a coffee hacienda for a 2-hour horseback ride through the coffee fields.
Day 4: Chocolate Workshop – Transfer to Lake Atitlan
After breakfast, learn hands-on about the cocoa seed through a personalized workshop where you will be able to work with the kernel, brew it, toast it and grind it to elaborate chocolates as we know them. Make your own chocolate creations and one hour later, you’ll be able to enjoy them!
After the chocolate tour, you’ll be transferred to Lake Atitlan, located 144 kms west of Guatemala City.
With three stunning volcanoes rising out of its emerald surface, Lake Atitlan is characterized by its natural beauty surrounded by gorgeous views of the volcanoes and indigenous villages filled with culture. The famous writer Aldous Huxley considered it “the most beautiful lake in the world”.
Overnight at a Lake Atitlan hotel, daily breakfast included – 2 nights.
Day 5: Kayak / Tzununa Hike / San Juan Village tour
After breakfast your guide will take you on a private boat to pick up the kayaks and gear for your padding excursion on the lake. Enjoy an easy 45 minute – 1-hour kayak tour along the shores of Lake Atitlan, paddling past small indigenous villages, local Mayan fisherman and rugged cliffs with exotic plants and birdlife.
You will arrive at the small village of Tzununa and then embark on an easy hike along footpaths used by the local people, with stunning views of the volcanoes surrounding the lake. Tzununa is a small village located on the north shore of Lake Atitlan.
The trek uphill and back to Santa Cruz la Laguna has no true road access, so you will be hiking along ancient paths that have been used by the Kaqchikel Mayans for centuries. While trekking you’ll be able to watch beautiful views of the lake. The word Tzununa means “Land of the sparrows”.
After lunch (included), you will travel by boat to San Juan la Laguna, a traditional indigenous village on Lake Atitlan where you’ll learn about the weaving traditions of the Maya at a women’s textile co-op. After exploring San Juan, the boat will take you back to the hotel in the village of Panajachel.
Day 6: Zipline Canopy Tour – Flight to Flores
After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you to the Atitlan Natural Reserve. On arrival, you’ll start your zip line and trekking adventure through the forest. Fly through and be amazed by the wonderful views of the lake.
The valley where the San Buenaventura natural reserve is located has suffered tremendous transformations over the years. It started as a coffee plantation in the 1700s and by 1997 it opened as a natural preserve and visitor center. This amazing natural preserve is on close to 35 acres of land, including areas of old oak forest and old shade coffee grove.
This afternoon transfer to the Guatemala City Airport for your flight to Flores. Airport reception and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at a Peten Itza hotel, breakfast included – 2 nights.
Day 7: Tikal Mayan Ruins Adventure
After breakfast you will meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel and transfer to Tikal National Park for your expert visit. Your guide will show you the layout of the temples, architecture, history, some theories of why the Mayans disappeared and if you are lucky a few monkeys, parrots, macaws and toucans will be on site. After the tour, enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the middle of the jungle.
Tikal was one of the grandest and most important cities in the Mayan Civilization. Today this ancient metropolis sits in ruins, its massive temples, palaces and ceremonial complexes devoured by the jungle.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979, Tikal is Guatemala’s most famous cultural and natural preserve. Kids can explore this archaeological jungle gym as if they were Indiana Jones, climbing up and over structures all the while howling along with the calls of the howler monkeys in jungle canopy above!
After lunch, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Day 8: Flight to Guatemala City – Int’l Departure
Transfer to the Flores Airport for your flight back to Guatemala City. Connect with your international flight.
