Day 1 : La Paz

You will be met at the airport upon arrival and transferred to your La Paz hotel.

Day 2 : La Paz – Uyuni

Hotel pickup and transfer to the airport for your flight to Uyuni, a desolate, yet charming town that gives access to the famous Bolivian Salt Flats. You will be met at the airport and dropped off at your hotel. Afternoon at leisure to explore the town and surroundings on your own.

Overnight at a Uyuni hotel, breakfast included. *Optional upgrade to one of the salt hotels.

Day 3 : Salar de Uyuni

Start the day with a visit to the train cemetery in Uyuni with several abandoned machines that will offer glimpses of the modern history of this part of Bolivia when mining was booming in the region. Excellent photo opportunities.

Later we drive to the small village of Colchani where locals extract and process salt. You will be shown interesting aspects of the geological history of the Uyuni Salt Lake, such as natural processes of salt formation that had continued for thousands of years. You will observe the Ojos de Sal (or salt eyes), where ice cold healing water bubbles through the salt. This water originates from an underground river at the Tunupa Volcano.

On the way to Isla Incahuasi, we will pass the first small hotel in this area built entirely from salt blocks, known as Playa Blanca. At the Isla, lunch will be served followed by a hike among the huge cacti where you will observe the wildlife of this rare habitat and the 360-degree views of the endless Uyuni´s Salt Lake. In the afternoon we will head north crossing the salt lake towards the Tunupa Volcano, a unique location for an amazing sunset that colors the landscape of the salt lake.

You will spend the night at a salt hotel located on the salt flats.

Day 4 : Tahua – Ojo Perdiz

The next morning you will catch the sunrise before crossing the Uyuni Salt Flats to the south. Visit the Cueva Galaxias. Later, drive to the Chinguana Salt Lake, see the Ollague Volcano, which is currently mildly active.

You will stop at several lagoons, such as Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota, Honda and Ramaditas which offer views of three flamingo species. After crossing the Siloli Desert, you will arrive at your next lodge for dinner and good night’s rest.

Day 5 : Salar de Uyuni – Ojo Perdiz – Arbol de Piedra – Laguna Colorada – Laguna Verde – Colchani or Uyuni

The next morning you will start with an early breakfast and then visit Arbol de Piedra (Stone Tree). Continue to Laguna Colorada and other natural attractions of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, such as the impressive shooting geysers of Sol de Mañana.

You will go to the natural hot springs at Termas de Polques, with safe bathing temperatures, where you are welcome to soak for awhile. Then, stop at Salvador Dali desert, Laguna Verde at the base of the Licancabur Volcano and Laguna Blanca for lunch.

Later you will return to Uyuni via Villamar, the Alota Valley, Culpina K and San Cristobal. Overnight Uyuni hotel.

Day 6 : Uyuni – Rurrenabaque

Transfer to the airport for your flight to La Paz. Connect with a flight to Rurrenabaque. You will be met at the airport and escorted to your hotel. Your afternoon and evening are at leisure in the small, remote outpost town.

Day 7 : Madidi Rainforest Reserve

You will wake up early and depart in a dugout canoe along the Beni River navigating the spectacular Bala Gorge. After the exciting river journey and short hike, where you have the oppurtunity to see many animals, you will arrive at your jungle lodge, your home for the next three nights.

You will have all afternoon to explore forest trails, including a stop at El Mirador, a super view of the lake and central mountain ranges of the park. After dinner, take an optional night walk or look for wildlife by canoe on the lake, such as black caimans, frogs and nocturnal birds.

For the next three days you will participate in several activities that will engage you with your incredible surroundings. Take hikes, and boat rides that give you the oppurtunity to ovserve macaws, guans, antbirds, trogons and other birds, as well as troops of brown capuchin and squirrel monkeys, or with more luck cross a tapir or herds of white-lipped peccaries. Our local guides will share their rich knowledge of plants and their uses, natural history and animal behavior.

When not sight seeing you can use the Chalalan Ecolodge’s relaxing amenities, including the many hammocks set up throughout the property. All meals are included so prepare your pallet for local flavors and native cuisine.

Day 8 : Madidi Rainforest Reserve

Day 10 : Rurrenabaque – La Paz

This morning you will return by river to Rurrenabaque, transfer to the airport for your flight to La Paz. Airport reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 11 : Mountain Biking to Coroico

On the ride you will experience incredible scenic variety and a spectacular descent of more than 3,600m/11,800 feet, from snow-covered high-altitude plains and mountain ranges down to the steaming Amazonian Jungle.

Part of the ride is on the dramatic and scenic “World’s Most Dangerous Road,” In recent years improvements have been made making the road much less dangerous. After the ride you can relax at La Senda Verde Cabins and Animal Refuge, complete with rescued monkeys, parrots, a snake, and much more.

You will be transferred from La Paz to wind-swept La Cumbre where you’ll see fantastic views of a number of snow-covered peaks, including Huayna Potosí. From here you descend rapidly down a twisting asphalt road among mountain peaks, grazing llamas and alpacas, tiny villages and a check-post.

After a snack you descend further, and after a brief undulating section of road you enter the jungle itself and the most challenging part of the ride.

Just below the village of Yolosa you ride down to La Senda Verde Animal Refuge where you enjoy a late pasta and salad buffet lunch, take in the magnificent scenery, spend time relaxing by the pool, enjoying a cold drink and getting to know the rescued animals before returning to La Paz.

Day 12 : Tiahuanaco

You will depart La Paz by private vehicle for Tiahuanaco for a tour of the ruins. The Tiahuanaco civilization has barely been excavated. A temple site with imagery and structural features like those of Tihuanaco was recently discovered 100 ft under the surface of Lago Titicaca.

The Incas, a later arriving civilization in the region, integrated much of Tiahuanaco culture, science, and cosmology. Sacred Inca totems, such as the condor, puma and fish, comprise the most ancient iconography at Tiahuanaco.

Afterward, you will return to La Paz.

Day 14 : Int’l Departure

You will be transferred to the airport in time for your international departure.
