Your trip begins near San José, where the Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation sets the tone for the week—an immersion in sustainability, local flavor, and warm hospitality. From the slopes overlooking the Central Valley, the landscape rolls outward in deep green folds of coffee and canopy, inviting exploration.
As the itinerary unfolds, Lost World Adventures connects you to the diversity of Costa Rica’s natural world—its misted forests, volcanic uplands, and hidden beaches. The Nectandra Cloud Forest offers a firsthand look at one of the most biologically rich ecosystems on Earth. Later, at El Silencio Lodge & Spa, luxury meets conservation, proving that comfort and environmental care can thrive side by side.
In the northern lowlands, La Selva Biological Station opens a living classroom of biodiversity. You’ll walk trails that double as open-air laboratories, where researchers study everything from bats to bromeliads. A visit to a family-run chocolate farm adds a personal note—an edible lesson in Costa Rica’s agricultural heritage, shared by people who live it every day.
The journey then eases toward the Pacific. Guanacaste’s dry forests and bright coastline offer contrast to the humidity of the highlands. From the caves of Barra Honda to the waterfalls of Sensoria Rainforest Sanctuary, each stop reveals another facet of the country’s geological and ecological complexity. Between hikes, the days stretch into sunlight and sea air on Potrero Beach.

Day 1: Arrive San Jose
Meet our local representative as you exit the Juan Santa Maria International Airport who will drive you to the Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation.
Located at 4000 feet above sea level and overlooking the Central Valley, surrounded by exotic flora and coffee plantations, sink into your comfortable suite, set within the tranquility of lush tropical vegetation of this internationally renowned small boutique hotel, unrivaled in its commitment to blending comfort with environmentally friendly practices.

Day 2: San Jose / Nectandra Cloud Forest / El Silencio
Morning departure for the approximately 1½ hour drive to Nectandra Cloud Forest Preserve. This is a horticultural display garden landscaped to exhibit the immense richness of the flora and fauna of Costa Rica. The premontane cloud forest of this region has one the highest density of species in the world.
The Garden carries out educational programs for the general public and conducts limited scientific studies to support its educational goals.
These goals are to promote understanding of neotropical cloud forests: their biodiversity, their ecology, and their importance to our future. The trails at Nectandra Garden weaves through both secondary and primary forests along loop trails of varying length and walking difficulty to challenge visitors of all ages and physical abilities.
Then, continue on to El Silencio Lodge & Spa, the newest cloud forest lodging experience. The property is the creation of one of the most highly decorated resorts in the country for its sustainability programs, and for careful attention to the balance between environment and high-quality upscale accommodations.
Day 3: Day visit to La Selva Biological Station and Chocolate Tour
La Selva offers varied habitats easily accessible old –growth forest, regenerating agricultural lands and an arboretum. Home to more than the half of the 886 species of birds in Costa Rica.
Home to five of the six species of felines in the country. Home to more than 70 species of bats. Home to 1850 species of vascular plant flora. More than 350 researchers from 25 countries visit La Selva every year to study the tropics.
Knowledgeable bilingual naturalists’ lead daily nature walks to explore life in the tropical rainforest on 57 km (35 miles) of well-maintained trails, some of which are accessible to the physically challenged.
Excellent bilingual naturalists lead the walks that give a glimpse of the leading-edge research conducted at La Selva as well as the Natural History of the Tropical Rain Forest. A maximum group size is 12 people per guide.
Each walk is approximately 3 1/2 hours, mainly y on cement or wood trails suitable for people of all ages. Some trails are accessible for the physically challenged.
After lunch continues on to experience Costa Rica Best Chocolate Tour. Rodolfo Alvarado, a former head guide at La Selva Biological Station began a family business last year offering a Chocolate Tour on his own property.
This chocolate tour takes place in a more private environment, focusing on small groups and private tours. Rodolfo’s Chocolate tour includes showing the guests the chocolate plantation, history and showing people the process, and he makes it so the tour is fun, interactive and very informative. You will have the chance to take part in it.
Day 4: El Silencio – Potrero Beach, Guanacaste
After breakfast, depart for the approximately 5-hour drive to Hotel Bahia del Sol, located in Guanacaste, located beachfront just steps away from Potrero Beach, one of the safest beaches of the Pacific Coast.
Hotel Bahía del Sol is a beautiful property with friendly staff, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, spa. Yoga classes are available at no cost for all guests, tours all framed in an impressive tropical scenario that includes lush and tropical.
Day 5: Guanacaste – Barra Honda Caves
Hiking through the Barra Honda National Park lead to an intricately large system of limestone caverns which house a multitude of capricious forms and figures. Reef rocks constitute Barra Honda Hill, of 300 meters tall, which means, by old reefs that sink caused by an elevation provoked by tectonics faults 60 millions of years ago.
You will be gear up with special rock climbing equipment to explore and enjoy these caves and see the flora and fauna of this place. Along the trails that lead to the caves, there are chances to see coatis, agoutis, anteaters and monkeys and also different species of tree and medicinal plants.
This hike takes around one hour approx. and may be difficult depending on your physical condition since it involves hiking in a hilly area. This national park covers 2,295 hectares and includes a network of trails leads through the dry tropical forest.
Day 6: Guanacaste – Sensoria Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary
In the less developed north side of Rincon De La Vieja National Park is Sensoria, a private rainforest wildlife sanctuary, where people hike through blue water springs, warm thermal spring’s waterfalls and rainforest.
The hike through the rainforest, thermal pools, and waterfall takes approximately 3-4 hours. It’s not a difficult hike and there is an observation platform where you can see the canopy of Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
The visit to this place is limited to a maximum of 30 people per day, There is only one hike per day and it’s scheduled at 9:30 a.m. All this is done to keep the impact on nature as minimal as possible.
This place is like going to the well-known Rio Celeste but on a more private and intimate basis. Fully bilingual guides are available for the hikes.
Day 7: Guanacaste – a day at the beach
A day at leisure to enjoy the beach.
Day 8: International departure
Depart for the drive (around 1-hour) to Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia for your departing flight.

Then, transfer by private car to Lake Atitlan where you will spend two nights. On your full day you can kayak, mountain bike, visit lakefront villages and local markets.
