Hosteria Estancia Monte Leon: Wild and Remote – Patagonia by the Sea
Monte Leon National Park used to be a private property dedicated to the wool production, which was bought by the environmentalists Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, from Patagonia Land Trust / The Conservation Land Trust in 2001 to create the first marine National Park in Argentina.
With 150.000 acres of steppe and 24 miles of coastline, this site is home to sea lions, Magellanic penguins, cormorants and other seabirds, as well as an incredible amount of pumas, guanacos, armadillos, choiques and much more steppe wildlife.
The balance of nature here has been restored and Hosteria Estancia Monte Leon is perfect to explore this pristine, remote area in Patagonia.
Today, the English-style house that was, for years, the home of the Estancia Owners, is open as Hostería Monte León, the only lodging option within the National Park, run by its original owners. Located just a few steps from the sheep shearing sheds and other buildings of the Estancia, which are now offices of the National Park Administration.
A stay here allows guests to imagine life when it was one of the most important Estancias in Patagonia.
With a typical Patagonian atmosphere, the house has 4 spacious rooms. Within the common areas, the bright winter garden is perfect for a moment of relaxation enjoying the infinite steppe landscape, or to discover the collection of antique objects in the house, and the library, dedicated to the history and nature of the area .
A comfortable living room with fireplace, dining room and desk complete the other areas of the house.
