Tawa Refugio del Puelo

Cochamo, Chile

Tawa Refugio del Puelo – Cochamo, Chile

A few years ago, the Tagua – a native bird of Chile – lived here, in the Puelo River, building its nests on the shore of Lake Tagua Tagua.

At Tawa Refugio del Puelo, we were inspired by the history of this bird and created a space of harmony and connection with nature, where you can live a cozy, unique, simple and authentic experience, a true refuge in the immensity of this valley.

A place to dream, a place to plan adventures, a place to explore, a place to share and also to rest enjoying that simplicity, elegance and warmth that only nature can give.

“The TAWA is a set of volumes of different designs and arranged freely to optimize views, achieve privacy, conquer the forest and the river edge, all connected by walkways and lost among myrtle trees, rocks and dust.

As a finishing touch, right at the confluence of the lake and the river, stands the restaurant. A taller building that juts out to face the lake and stands out to beckon the traveler: a refuge that takes the form of a house, opening up views of the highest hills in search of light and closing off the sides to protect from the coldest and rainiest winds that come in from the valley and from the lake.

The Puelo River, with its turquoise waters, shapes one of the most spectacular river basins in southern Chile. Lakes, forests, and mountains make up a pristine and wild territory, the gateway to Northern Patagonia. It originates in Lake Puelo, Argentina, and its waters flow into the Pacific Ocean through the Reloncaví Estuary.

In the middle of this journey, the river gives life to Lake Tagua Tagua, a strategic point from which we can delve into the immensity of this valley, and at the same time, rest in the warmth of Tawa, Puelo’s Refuge.

Each cabin offers 38 square meters of spacious and comfortable accommodation. The layout includes a double-height master bedroom with a king-size bed and desk, an en-suite bathroom, and a loft with two twin beds, ideal for children or for bringing friends along for the adventure.

Adjacent to this spacious interior, a private terrace provides the opportunity to relax to the sounds of the river and the forest without leaving the comfort of your cabin.
