Puerto Maldonado is the gateway to many different jungle trips. It is located deep in the Amazon Jungle just 55 km west of the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios Rivers.

Iquitos was founded in the mid-18th century as a Jesuit mission to the indigenous Yameo people.
